Silas Eckert Obituary

Silas, affectionately known as "King Si", or "Silas the Eyeless", crossed over the rainbow bridge on Saturday, May 21, 2022, with his loving humans near. Silas was born in the spring of 2008 and is the last survivor from his litter.  Silas was declawed because he was supposed to live his life as an indoor cat.  He was content with that for a while, until he wasn't.  He'd run out the door every chance he could get.  His family worried sick about him until they saw him climb a tree, proof he could escape trouble if needed, although one time a hawk swooped down and nearly got him.

He regularly patrolled the perimeter of his territory.  He got into scraps and was normally not hurt too bad.  It was thought that either the neighborhood cats were also declawed or Silas was a total bad*ss.  Yeah, he was pretty much a BA. His nose was scarred, his ear was notched, and one day he came home with an eye injury that caused him to lose his eye.   This is how he became affectionately known as "Silas the Eyeless."  After that the family wanted him to live out his days as a protected housecat as originally planned. Inside and safe. But this boy was born to roam.  He was miserable inside.  Once he acclimated to living with one eye, he was ready to go back out.  Cats the family had never seen before began to trigger their outside cameras and it was clear they were taunting him by marking HIS territory. He was ready to get back out and defend what was his.  He was ready to live his best life and that's exactly what he did. He became similar to the "Tom Sawyer" of cats, living out his life coming and going as he pleased, enjoying the spoils of the world and the affection of all those around him.   When he did come inside he enjoyed cuddling with his family, watching tv with mom, and rolling in her freshly washed clean towels.  Silas was so loved by his family and will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his favorite humans, Michael and Amy, Kayla, Scott, Alia, Ella, Reid, Mallory, Jon, Grayson, Maddox, Joseph, Kathryn, Nate, and his fur-sibling, Beethoven, whom he was the boss of.  In fact, he was the boss of the entire family.  Rest in Peace, Silas.
